Climate Change and Major Projects

Outline of the climate change related requirements and guidance for major projects in the 2014-2020 programming period. Ensuring resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

Transforming cities in a changing climate

The new EEA report 'Urban adaptation to climate change in Europe 2016' describes urban adaptation action taken by local, regional, national and European authorities since the EEA’s last report in 2012. It relates the results of these actions to the needs stemming from the highly systemic climate changes impacts that many cities already face or will in future. The report asks questions such as: Do current approaches and action move in the right direction? Are they ambitious enough to transform cities into climate-resilient, sustainable and attractive places?

Resilience of large investments and critical infrastructures in Europe to climate change

The rapport shows that climate hazard damage to critical infrastructure in Europe will increase as a result of global warming and there will be an uneven territorial distribution of future impacts and adaptation needs.

Urban adaptation to climate change in Europe 2016

This report builds on and complements existing products and initiatives on urban adaptation in Europe. It focuses on the state of actions in the field and progress achieved since the first EEA report in 2012, and it considers this analysis in relation to current challenges: Do existing actions lead to attractive, climate-resilient cities and if not, what needs to be changed? The report aims to broaden perspectives and provide input to a review and subsequent adjustment of urban adaptation to climate change by local governments and by supporting regional, national and European institutions, researchers and other relevant stakeholders.
