Mobile protection against rising sea levels

Mobile protection against rising sea levels is suitable for when a raised sea level is threatening areas for which there is no existing protection. Mobile protection requires no or only few permanent facilities. Such systems are set up when a warning has been received about unusually high sea levels that may lead to flooding. The systems can be taken down again directly after the warning notice has been withdrawn or the event is over.

Examples of mobile protection against rising sea levels are sand bags, temporary quay walls, partitions, etc.

The extent and frequency of flood events are decisive for which, and for how often, mobile systems to protect against rising sea levels should be set up. If floods are frequent, it may be appropriate to consider establishing permanent works to protect against rising sea levels, such as a dike or a quay wall.
