More frequent storms

Comply with the Building Regulations and show care in execution

In the future, stormy weather with high wind speeds will occur more frequently and for more extended periods than before. There may be a risk that storms will emerge with a more violent force, which causes exposure of buildings to extreme conditions more frequently than today. These storms may reveal if the dimensioning and execution of them were correct.

Wind affects a building with both direct wind pressure and negative pressure on the leeward side. When complying with current standards, the constructions will withstand wind pressures of predictable storm strengths with a good margin. During the construction phase, entrepreneurs and workers should take special care and check that the construction follows the project, with the correct execution of joints and sufficient fixation of gables, roof tiles, facades, windows, and doors.

When organising planting, the landscaper should consider whether trees might eventually threaten buildings if storms knock trees over.
