Quay walls / sheet pile walls

A wall across the harbour area can keep seawater from invading the city and can make space for new activities in the harbour area. Protection against rising sea levels in the form of a wall in the harbour area is an alternative to establishing protective installations further out to sea. The wall can be made from plastic sheet piles, steel sheet piles, wood structures or from concrete. All of these materials enable establishment of openings in the wall that can be closed by sluices during extreme weather events.
