Stone gardens (artificial reefs)

Subsea stone gardens can be established as a part of coastal protection. A ten-meter wide stone garden has been established on the seabed in the Port of Aarhus, along the existing port protection.  The stone garden is constructed with rubble stone of 1,000-3,000kg and the top of the structure reaches up to 0.5m under mean sea level. The waves effectively break against the stone garden and the forces of the sea are thereby reduced before reaching the original port protection. The amount of seawater washing up to the original port protection is thereby reduced and it is possible to build and live close to the sea without problems from the waves.
