Green walls

In principle, green walls work in the same way as green roofs and may be used to dress building facades with green and organic art works.

A green wall is constructed by fitting rails onto the wall. Nets are then attached to these rails. The nets are insulated with uv-stabilised fabric that is subsequently filled with a special type of soil which can retain large amounts of rainwater. The soil ensures the system against frost and drying up, because it allows the roots to develop a strong root network. Automatic application of water and fertiliser are important features of green wall systems. Watering relies primarily on rainwater. Most plants can be used for the wall, although some plants are more suitable than others.
