Permanent barriers in buildings (manual and automatic)

Permanent barriers preventing water from entering buildings could be e.g. watertight doors, gates, walls, windows and partitions. Other more temporary solutions can be fitted manually as part of preparations for an expected cloudburst or storm surge. The permanent barriers are typically fitted where the building is particularly vulnerable, such as by entrances and lifts, or by server rooms and technical control rooms. Other solutions available on the market include automatic valves, which prevent underground parking garages from being flooded. Manual solutions require regular drills, so that staff and inhabitants know how to fit the various elements correctly.
